Chinese Ministries Ethnic Facilitator, Rev. Samuel Chung
The Chinese Ministries Facilitator, Rev. Samuel Chung, is accountable to the Multicultural Ministries USA/Canada regional office and his primary function is to implement the agreed-upon policies and strategies for evangelism and strengthening of existing structures on the various districts of the Church of the Nazarene.
Role and Function
The Facilitator is available to arrange meetings with district superintendents and district leaders to help formulate and implement church planting strategies.
Upon the approval of the district superintendent, visit churches and pastors who express a desire to sponsor culture specific congregations.
Upon the approval of the district superintendent, visit to culture-specific congregations that express the need for consultation in leadership development.
Recommend potential pastors for new and existing congregations.
Assist district superintendents, when requested, in the development of strategies for new initiative among specific people groups.

Chinese Ministries Strategic Readiness Team
Each Facilitator works with a Strategic Readiness Team. Strategic Readiness Teams meet annually to pray, plan and strategize for their perspective ethnic group in the USA/Canada. The Chinese Ministries Strategic Readiness Team is comprised of Chinese pastors that have been approved by their District Superintendent and the Multicultural Ministries Director. Chinese Ministries Unique Mission
Chinese Ministries: “exists to support districts, pastors, local churches, and leaders in the task of making Christlike disciples among Chinese groups in the U.S. and Canada.” It also endeavors to:
Encourage the development of strategy, initiative, and resources to reach the USA/Canada mission field through the visionary leadership of a Chinese Mission Facilitator and Strategy Committee
Facilitate the creation of resources for pastors, local congregations, and for ministerial preparation through the strategy committee;
Utilize as strategy committee members, church leaders who are committed to establishing the Kingdom of God in the hearts of Chinese people in their communities
Chinese Ministries Plan of Action
- To Promote Fasting and Praying (Time to start: 2013)
to promote regional prayer gatherings and time for fasting; to start with leaders and to spread to congregations
- To Build Up the SRT Team
a) to recruit one new member to provide Mandarin representation (2013);
b) a SRT team meeting at General Assembly 2013 (2013)
- Vision Casting for the Chinese Pastors (2013)
to conduct a meeting of all Chinese leaders at General Assembly 2013 to share and cast vision for all Chinese Leaders
- Recruit Pastors (2013)
a) encourage home grown seminarians/pastors; (need to encourage and train our pastors in how they can develop new pastoral leadership)
b) encourage bi-vocational ministry;
c) visit local seminaries;
d) connect with pastors from other denominations who are in transitions
- Equip Lay People (Eli-Samuel Model) (2013)
a) to conduct lay training: using the internet for both East and West coasts of US and Canada on Saturdays (morning for west coast and afternoon for East Coast). The first round will be in Cantonese led by current SRT team. We will use denominational curriculum for pastors and simplified it for the laypeople. Will translate curriculum into Chinese.
b) to encourage Mandarin pastors to start training using same curriculum and similar model.
- Identify new church plants possibility (2013)
a) work with district leadership with Chinese rich districts and known Chinese pockets
b) demographic study
- Church planting goal:
to build twenty churches in ten years
- Continue Pastors’ Retreat to Enhance Fellowship and Provide Training (2014)
The next pastors’ retreat will be in 2014 as there will be Chinese pastors gathering during General Assembly 2013.
- Build up/locate financial resources: locate mother church/Parent Affiliated Congregation; fund from denomination, districts and other sources.
